Seacroft Grange Primary School

Cross Country

On Tuesday 8th of March Seacroft Grange sent a team for the first time to the SSP cross-country event, the event was held at Brigshaw High School, Castleford. It was attended by upwards 10 Primary Schools.

The event was a team event and although Seacroft didn’t send full teams to compete in all age groups there were some fantastic performances on the day and the event was enjoyed by all.

Our participation began when Amy-Leigh started in the first race (Year 4 girls); Amy Leigh started at a furious pace and kept this up for the duration, she came in 3rd place, with a sprint finish at the end, a fantastic achievement! Next up, was Ethan in the Year 4 boys, he also started quickly and was close to the front all race, eventually placing in the top 10.

The year 5 girls provided our first full complement of five runners in a race, Paulina finished in the top 10 while, Nyssa, Klaudia, Tilly and Neve  all finished strongly in order to give Seacroft a team placing of 7th overall, all the girls had beaming smiles on their faces despite the cold, muddy conditions

The next race with Seacroft Grange involvement was the Year 6 girls (another full team of five runners); All set off strongly and when the runners came around the final bend, Chloe Hennigan was leading the pack, she extended this lead down the home straight to win the event for her age group, A wonderful result for Chloe and Seacroft, Hollie came in not far behind followed by Chloe McDermott with another sprinting finish, Libby and Natalia then finished within yards of each other.

Finally the Year 6 boys race: Three competitors from Seacroft start: Calam, Harrison and Josh May.  In a fiercely competitive race, the boys did superbly to battle resiliently through the increasingly difficult conditions. Harrison finished first of the boys inside the top 10, followed by Josh May and Calam soon after.

Judging from the enthusiasm shown on the day and afterwards, all of our runners enjoyed their first cross-country experience and showed how Gold they were throughout the event. Mr. Phillips and Mr. McHale were proud to be there to accompany them.

After the event, we received an email from the organisers, Mr.Phillips was delighted to hear that despite not being part of the top team she was invited to run in the West Yorkshire Final thanks to her impressive performance and finishing in first place.

Chloe Hennigan will be accompanied by Mr. Phillips, members of her family and friend Chloe; she will compete against runners from across the county at the West Yorkshire Winter Games Festival at Leeds Beckett University on Saturday 12th March! WE wish her well and update of her achievements will follow!
